(JP)—Soaked to the ftkin after trampinr through woodlands in the rain searching for deer, a group of hunters sought refuge ai a country hotel near here.While there, nine deer, five* doe and four bucks, came leis-; urely down the hill, passed the hotel and then swam the Onie launee Creek.The hunters dashed to the field, and all fired, but too late. Not a deer fell., Roy Smull of Mackeyville, a member of the State Fish Commission, got a buck Saturday, a fine eight point animal which obligingly came within a short distance of his home.. While Mr. Smull was eating dinner Saturday, Harry Billett ofILamar, a highway foreman came tothe Smull place and told Mr. Smull* 'that he had seen two fine deer inthe vicinity.• Mr. Smull lost no time in getting his gun and starting out in the direction where the deer had been seen. About a mile and a half from his home he saw the two bucks and shot the eight point deer. The other, a six point buck, ran away but returned soon and had it not been for the game laws Mr. Smullcould have killed another deer ashe had an excellent shot. Mr. Smull has tramped weary miles through the woods on various hunting parties and failed to get a deer until the animal came almost to his residence.~ Other Hunters' Luck ' Woodrow Probst of Swissdale on Saturday shot the largest buck brought down here in some time, the animal having nine points with a spread of 25 inches and weighing 196 pounds.Mr. Probst was a member of the Ramblers • Hunting party which hunted in the Waterville section* bringing down three deer before noon. Hayes Simcox shot an 8-point buck and Clarence Simcox shot a 7-point deer. Other members of the party were Warren and Pearl Castmille, Asher and Elery Simcox and Albert Eggler.1 Earl Botto’rf of this city, one of a party of four hunters who spent Saturday in the Coudersport Pike section, had the good fortune to come into range of an eight-point buck, which he brought down with the first shot.~ Leo C. Caprio shot a 6-point buck in the Liggett Springs area with the Liggetts Springs party encamped at the Caprio cabin..M. DeTurk High, dean of instruc-Ubn at Teachers College, shot a good sized buck last week while hunting with the O. D. Bush party along Johnson's Run near Ritchie.
