•Lamar says that CongressmanTucker’s furious harangue is the best, speech that has yet been delivered ou the Southern side. l'his proves what we have all along maintained, that there is not a bit of difference between the “conciliatory” wing of the Southern Democracy and its “reactionary element.vc simply two detachments of the same general force, having a common object, moving upon the same works, ami. although operating by different’uses. maiuUiining ;t perfect harmony.They do not believe in the unity ©f the Republic, and their matured, deliberate policy undoubtedly is to secure control oi the G-overnuient by a united South, uuited bv a practical denial of political rights to large numbers of citizens, and a divided North. So long as this policy is adhered to by the Southern Democracy, now in almost complete control of the South, so long is it the imperative duty of the North to stand firm and save the nation from the control of men who not only palliate and excuse the nameless horrors of Audersonville, but have really no more love for the I men than a convict has for the law which sentenced him. The hour is filledwith peril.
