Stretch Between Faison and Clinton Will Be Present ed To Public After Ad dress By Huey GOLDSBORO, July 31.—(AP) ‘Well-known political figures of the Carolinas will appear on the program Tuesday as part of the celebration marking the opening of the Faison-Clinton Cotton road. Col. George L. Peterson, chair man of the Cotton Road Asso ciation, said mayors of 22 towns between Richmond, Va., and Charleston, S. C., have been in vited to attend. Mayor B. H. Maybank of Charleston is sched uled to bring greetings from the Palmetto state. Governor Hoey will also speak here, State Treasurer Charles M. Johnson at Mt. Olive, Secretary of State Thad Bure at Calypso, Commissioner of Agriculture W. Kerr Ccott and Henry L. Stevens, former national commander of the American Legion, at Faison. Senator Robert R. Reynolds and Rep. Graham A. Barden are scheduled to appear at undeter mined sites along the route. A motorcade forming here will move to Clinton, stopping briefly at the intervening towns for music, talks and festivities. The celebration will mark the completion of the 14% miles ex perimental cotton road between Faison and Clinton. The project, said to be the longest of its kind in the world, will test the use of cotton fabric in providing roads that of fer greater resistance to weather damage.
