HARRISONBURG Pi— Three young Harrisonburg boys have been delayed in Cuba on their Way to set up a temporary ama teur radio station on uninhabited Navassa Island off the coast of Haiti The three, Donald Miller and Robert Eshleman, both 19. and Carl Shenk Jr., 18, were sche duled to begin broadcasting their call letters, KC44B, Sunday But Carl's mother said her son had contacted her short wave radio Saturday night and inform ed her that they had been delay ed in Cuba and wouldn't reach the island now until dawn Wed nesday. The cause of the delay could not be learned Original plans called for the three amateur radio operators to broadcast their call letters 20 hours a day for a week. Mrs. Shenk said the deli, would cut their time on the island to few days. If the boys are successful in sending messages from Navassa Island--whose rock cliff jut 60 feet out of the sea—the island will become the 26 st “country” recognid by ham operators. The president and treasure of the amateur radio club of Cuba will join the three boys in the ex pedition, Mrs. Shenk said.
