Members of the Manitoba Centennial Corporation re ceived their first copies of the Centurion, a newsletter pub lished by the Corporation, re cently. It is designed to keep members informed as to pro gress and plans of the Cor poration, and through them, the general puolic. ‘The Corporation Board, is chaired by Hon. Maitland B. Steinkopf, and its executive meets every Wednesday. Each member of the Board chairs TM committee, Executive Sec retary is Joseph E. Martin, who recently worked with the Mitchener Commission. mary Liz Bayer is Public Relations Director. ‘The committees of major importance play a key role: the Projects Finance Commit tee, chaired by James W. Burns and the Projects Ap proval Committee led by Donald J. Campbell. Through Mrs. W. C. Gardner, Speak ers Committee, meetings are being held where municipalit ies can learn all about finan cial arrangements and needs to local projects. After all the Proposals are in by the Deadline of December 31 the Projects Approval group will start its work. Other Board members chair ing Advisory Committees are Mrs. Mary Wawrykow, Pro ducts Approval; Judge C. C. Sparling, Provincial Flag; Douglas McBride, Municipal Liason and Jack Shapira, Pub lic Relations. Federal plans are proceed ing well, and include the fol lowing: 1. Centennial grants to pr oince; federal grants of $1.00 per capita, a memorial program: $2% million maxi mum grants to help finance a building “preferably of a cul tural character”, in each pro vince. 3. A special Ottawa pro ject program to build a Nat ional Library, a Museum com plex and a national centre for the performing arts. 4. A Celebration Program to include fun, films, festivities, seven a cross-country canoe race. Of special interest ro the Student exchange pro gram, the Confederation train s the ‘Confederation caravans ‘and a festival for the perform ing arts. There are 30 months left to 0 before all plans are com pleted. ‘The Centennial Corporat ion has awarded a grant of $300,000 to the City of Bra don towards their multi-pur pose auditorium. The first of five groups of 24 students and their chaper ones has left for the east un der the Student Exchange plan, with J. Rene Prefontaine ‘as chairman. By 1967 some 14,000 students will have par ticipated. The International Peace Garden project of a pavilion is chaired by Mrs. Percy Gen ser. ‘Lewis D. Whitehead is in charge of the Parks and Pre servation program with plans for Bird's Hill, Spruce Woods and Shelmouth. Professor W. L. Mortonis in charge of Historical and Bi ographical Records.
