“We didn’t play well at all,’ Benton girls’ coach L.B. Wilson commented. ‘‘Maybe success is hard for us to live with.” After trouncing Lakeside Friday night, Wilson’s girls got it put right back to them Monday when Morriston beat them 48-28. “We really had a poor shooting night,”’ he added, “26 percent from the field. We had plenty of shots in the 10-12 foot range but flat missed them.” Wilson also said the Lady Panthers’ defensive effort was poor, as was their rebounding. “It was a matter of watching the ball going to the rim instead of jock eying for position like we should.” We said Friday’s effort proved they can play “good basketball. We'll be good by the year’s end. We have to hit the boards better and shoot consistently.” Carol Gardner topped Benton Monday with 13 points, Beth Owen hit nine and Oveta Pledger six.
