Mrs. Lillian McDowell, arrested Thurs day in her mother's home and charged with complicity in a $10,000 diamond rob bery in Pittsburg, attempted suicide early yesterday morning in the Harrison street police station annex, where she is being held awaiting the arrival of officers from Pittsburg. After the lights had been ‘turned low for the night the woman tore a sheet into strips and attempted to hang herself. She was unconscious when discovered by the matron, but was revived by Dr. Wall. “I didn’t succeed that time, but I'll kill myself yet,” she said. ‘“‘I’ll never go back to Pittsburg alive and I'll never go to prison for the robbery with which I am charged.” Mrs. McDowell's attempt to end her life slowed a threat; she made frequently to her mother after her unexpected return hrom a few days ago. Mother and sisters had not seen the woman for ten years. Suddenly she appeared with her baby. She told her relatives that her husband was dead and that she had nothing to live for. It was not until after she had been ar rested that the woman’s mother learned that she had married James McDowell, a notorious thief, who is now serving a ten year sentence in the penitentiary for the robbery in which she is accused of acting as his accomplice.
