By PAT SMITH Courier Times Staff Writer Drugs, slides and back pay for teachers marked the agenda of the Bristol Borough School Board Tuesday. Under questioning from Russ Walsh, president of the Bristol Borough Education Association (BBEA), School Board Solicitor Anthony Mandio reported on his correspondence with the Presi dent’s Pay Board during the past month. Bristol teachers, through the BBEA, have been pressing the school board to pay them those wages which were “frozen’’ last fall by President Nixon. Last month, the board asked Mandie to contact the pay board for guide lines on retroactive pay. The solicitor said he wrote the pay board Jan. 13, two days after the school board meeting. He re ceived a reply, dated Jan. 28, which said the pay board was unable to provide guidelines be cause the proper regulations had not yet been adopted. Mandie wrote another letter last week asking the pay board to provide guidelines as soon as pos sible. He also read a memo from the Pennsylvania School Board Asso ciation advising local boards to pay retroactive wages to teachers in situations where a contract was signed before the wage freeze. In situations such as in Bristol, where the contract was signed after the freeze went into effect, the board needs an exception from the government before it can pay teachers, according to the PSBA. Walsh said he was glad to see Mandie was working on the prob lem and asked the solicitor to con tinue his efforts. After the meeting, he laid the blame for the delay with the pay board and President Nixon.
