From Friday Daily. The utility of the airship as a min eral carrier is responsible for closing of the big asbestos mining deal in the Grand Canyon field, north of Ash Fork, the seller being W. W. Bass, and the buyers a Pasadena, California syndicate of manufacturers, the sale being consummated this week, with a heavy first cash payment. Arrivals yesterday from El Tovar announced this transaction to be a fact, and which also was contingent an aerial navigation figuring as the essential factor in bringing into a Productive state for transporting the output. Anita, on the Grand Can yon railway, will be the loading point, the mines being located 35 miles west and in the gorge of the canyon at a depth below the rim of approximately 2000 feet No other tenable way is open to handle the product of the mines, the location being inaccessible to any class of vehicles, while a nar row trail only is available The load ing point for the airship has been se lected, is convenient to the mines, and a machine with a carrying capacity of about one ton will make the trip; with the raw product in less than 20 minutes, the purpose being to load a tar every other day. The asbestos fibre in its raw state from the Buss mines is stated to be of the highest grade known, and when chemically treated by a secret process will be interwoven with silk, the finished article giving the highest class fabric possible. The novelty of utilizing the airplane in this unique undertaking is naturally engrossing the attention of everybody in the above country, for the novelty of the manner in which freighting is to be conducted, and the economy of hand ling the output so readily. Also will this venture be the first known in mining annals anywhere in the world where the airship is to solve the min ing problem and with no other avenue of transportation being feasible The representative of the buying syndi cate has been on the ground, and after making the first payment to Mr. Bass openly stated what method was decided upon in handling the product) and as above outlined.
