As we go to press we hear the most ravenants taperts from Albany regard ing the prospects of the Canal Railroad. Much has been done to secure the grant of the canal by the State, and we have no doubt but that the bill in troduced by Mr. Morgan will be pass ed. The position and influence which fully justifies all that the Partner said of him during the late canvass. Going to Albany a new Member, he was ac corded a place on three important com mittes, one of which—the Canal—ena bles him directly to influence legisla tion on our pet scheme, while the oth ers give him large power, not only to aid his own, but other important meas ures. We shall soon lay before our readers the railroad bill which Mr. Morgan in troduced last week, some of the fea tures of which will largely add to the prospect of its passage. In the old bill a two-thirds vote was necessary ; in the present bill Mr. Morgan has avoided this difficulty by making his bill provide for a sale with a nominal consideration instead of a grant, thus rendering a majority vote only neces sary. He has also made important changes as to the bonds to be given, and more fully protects the interests of the State. For all this much credit should be given to Mr. Morgan, for should his bill succeede, as it will,such success will be entirely owing to these important changes. Mr. Morgan has also allayed all op position along the line. To do this it was necessary for him to work careful ly and prudently with other Members who feared the interest of their imme diate constituency was not protected. He succeeded, although he was com pelled to delay the bill for a few days to reach success, and now his bill is re ceiving the united support of all the members along the line of the Canal. Our people should rejoice and be proud of a Member who, like his pre decessor, is conferring so much credit upon his district, and one who will be felt in the shaping of legislation this winter.
