LaVerne Lamoureux has been employed as executive director of Zia Girl Scout Council. She is the daughter of Paul Korman and the late Frances Korman of Roswell. Lamoureux will assume her in on Aug. 4. The Zia Girl Out Council serves the coun ties of Chaves, Eddy, Lea, Lin coln and Otero. Lamoureux is a graduate of Northern Michigan Universi ty, Marquette, Mich., and has done graduate work at Califor nia State University in Fuller ton, Calif. She has had 15 years of pro fessional experience in various Girl Scout Councils across the country and was employed as a National Staff Consultant in the area of program and membership development by Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. Most recently, LaVerne Lamoureux was employed by the YWCA, Seattle/King Coun ty, Seattle, Wash. There she directed a ‘‘Woman’s Resource and Referral” pro gram for individuals fleeing domestic violence and directed an ‘‘Emergency Shelter’”’ housing program for families in crisis. Her volunteer activities while in Seattle included serv ing on the Mayor’s Task Force to improve Seattle’s living en vironment for children. The rogram, titled ‘‘Kids Place,”’ as been used as a model for other urban centers. She also has been a Girl Scout Leader for Brownie, Junior and Cadette levels, as well as consultant to Senior Girl Scouts working on their Gold Award. Lamoureux served on the board of directors for the King County Assoociation of social and Health Services and has been active with the United ay. The Council headquarters is in the community of Artesia; service centers are in Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Eunice, Hobbs, Jal, Lovington and Roswell. Zia Council is a United Way funded agency.
