Will Be Formally Opened Tuesday, August Third. Governor Hoey and Other Distinguished Speakers To Address the Gathering; Cavalcade Starts From Goldsboro August Third. Clinton, July 27.--The Fuaison- Clinton Cotton Road Association of the Sea Level route will cele brate the completion of the cot ton road connecting Faison and Clnton, on Tuesday, August 3. This cotton fabric road was constructed by the N. C. State Highway and Public Works Com mission under the supervision of the United States Bureau of Pub lic Roads and is the longest sin gle stretch of this knd of road in the United States and is the only road of its kind which is complete within itself and con nects two towns, Faison on U. S. Highway No. 117 and Clinton on U.S. Highway No. 701.The road is known as temporary N. C. No. dots. The completion of this road shortens the distance between points and Jacksonville, Fla., by eight miles over the Sea Level routes U.S. 117 and TOL. It cuts off the angle which was formerly traveled from Fa’son by Warsaw to Clinton. The surface of this cotton road is very smooth, it is wide, and long swinging curves allow gate and pleasant motoring. This road not only saves dis tance for tourists and other trav elers between the north and south but traverses one of the richest agrenatural sections in the United States. The territory about 100 miles south from Goldsboro and about 75 miles wide, may be con sidered the “garden spot of America. Within this territory there are four of the largest pro duce markets within the U. S., according to official records. Fal “on, the largest cucumber market, which also has the largest single cucumber salting station; Wal lace is the largest strawberry market; Turkey, seven miles east of Clinton, is the largest green pepper market; Clinton is the largest green corn market in the state and the largest market for native huckleberries for blueber res) and is also the largest pro duce market in the state. Markets for sale of cotton and tobacco are maintained in this section; Golds boro being one of the largest leaf tobacco markets in the state, and Clinton the largest interior cot ton market in the state. Mount Olive, Calypso, and Fason main tain cotton markets, also large quantities of crates and packages for the shipment of veleetables are manufactured at Mount Olive and Calypso. The celebration will begin on August 4 at Goldsboro, at 9 a.m., and short talks will be made; a motorcade will be formed headed by highway patrolmen followed by cars containig distinguished guests and others and will pro ceed to Mount Olive, Calypso and Faison, where a watermelon feast will be staged. The motorcade will move from Faison to Clinton over the cotton road, where the pro gram will be concluded by an ad dress by the governor of North Carolina. The merchants association of Clinton will entertain the guests at an old-fashioned barbecue at the American Legion Community Center at 1 o'clock. George L.
