PHILADELPHIA (AP) — E. Washington Rhodes, publisher, lawyer and long-time leader of the black community, died Wednesday in a hospital. He was 74. He was publisher of the Phila delphia Tribune, one of the old est continuously published Negro newspapers in the nation, Rhodes’ was born in South Carolina and was graduated from Lincoln University, near Chester and Temple University Law School. He was the first assistant U.S. District Attorney in the Phila delphia area. He also served in a state Legislature from 1933. _ Rhodes is survived by his wife, Jeanne.
