(Dyke) Raese, on mile West Virginia Univer stary leave of absence for the past four years, resigned today as West Virginia University basketball coach, Athletic Director Roy M. Hawley announced, Hawley said Raese’s decision was accepted “with regrets.” Raese, coach of the Mountain eers’ 1942 National Invitation Tournament championship team before entering the navy, said he had resigned to enter private bus iness. In his resignation, Raese paid high tribute to Coach Lee Patton and the record-breaking 1946 Mountaineer quintet which went to the semi-finals of this year’s Invitation Tournament. ‘Patton demonstrated his abil ity and good judgment this past season and will, I am sure, con tinue to make the Mountaineers an excellent coach and leader,” Raese said. Raese returned to Morgantown several months ago after almost four years’ service in the naval reserve. He was stationed at Chapel Hill, N. C., in charge of the basketball program at North Carolina Pre-Flight, directing the whole sports program in the late ter part of his service. He held the rank of lieutenant command er at time of separation. Coming to the University in 1939 from Davis, Tucker County, his University teams won 55 and lost 29 games over a four-year Span.
