(By the Associated Press) OKMULGEE, Okla., May 20.— Community production of Shakes peare’s “The Tempest,” involving a cast of 700 characters, made up en tirely from citizens of Okmulgee, will be given in the open-air am phitheatre in Noble Park today. Business and professional men have accepted the leading roles, co-oper ating with Okmulgee’s women’s civ ic clubs in producing a pageant that has become an annual affair since the community performance of ‘*Mid summer Night’s Dream,” last year. The outdoor productions of Shakespeare’s better known plays was the outgrowth of a desire on the part of women's clubs of Okmu gee to put into performance the artistic ability of the city’s com munity, funds from which are di verted to the associated charities division of the societies. Plans for the pageant to be giv en today, a re-production of which will be given tomorrow, have been enlarged over those which conclud ed in the production last year. The 500 who entered the cast last year has been extended to 700 this year, and the laying of scenes, lighting effects and costuming has been more elaborate for the pageant this year. Charles Edwards of Bass Rocks, Massachusetts, prominent director of pageants and himself a character in the annual production of the “House in the Moon,” at Bass Rock, has prepared the pageant again this year. Local talent especially those taking the leading roles, has been tutored for more than a month in dramatic expression of Shakespear ian days. Minor roles, choruses and those scenes calling for a great display of people, have been given the va rious clubs and members of city schools. Last year the women of the Shakespeare club, who originally conceived the pageant, interpreted the male roles but this year some of the most prominent men of the city have accepted these parts. The cast of chracters, as an nounced, follows: Alonso, King of Naples, the Rev. R. W. Clymer, Sebastian, his brother, Charles Kirk. Prospero the right Duke of Mi lan, Charles Edwards. Antonio, his brother, the usurping Duke of Milan, Ed Jillson. Ferdinand son to the king of Naples, Edwin J. Porter. Sonzalo, counsellor, Harry Swann. Lords: Adrian. L.W. Cranston and Francisco H. Horne Miller. Caliban, a slave, A. D. Cochran. Trinculo, a jester, V. F. Self. Stephano a drunken butler, C. D. Crites. Boatswain, I. S. Wright. Miranda, daughter to Prospero. Miss Waynette Hamilton. Ariel, an airy spirit, Mrs. A. D. Cochran. Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow, Mrs. H. E. Kennedy, Ceres, Goddess of Autumn, Miss Letitia Carter. . Juno a Grecian queen, Mrs. John Caruthers. School children will attend the queens and make up the trains of the goddesses, Iris and Ceres. Elves sprites and mariners attendants will also be carried by children.
