You surely have read and heard about “the Foundation” but what is it ex actly? I am sure most of you are involved in your community in some way: pro grams, sports, culture or services. You must appreciate what they do for you and your family and how they make Beausejour and Brokenhead a great place to live. Since 2000, The Brokenhead River Community Founda tion has given grants totalling more than $65,000 to over 35 groups and services in this area. Many of these grants cover projects not easily funded from other sources. As well as it has helped 28 young people attend post secondary edu cation in the form of bursaries and schol arships totalling $8,500. How does it work? The Foundation is a collection of funds, now standing at more than $380,000 that is invested and only the interest is used for worthwhile projects in many areas, such as sports, recreation, health, town beautification, culture and the environment. A board of twelve local residents administers the Fund and reviews applications for capi tal projects. When you make a donation to the Foundation, your money is invested for eternity so that in 50 or 100 years, you will still be supporting this community. However, with interest rates now so low, the size of the Fund must increase in or der to keep up the number and amount of grants. All donations are tax receipted and you may, if you wish, have your name in the Donor Book at the Library. Every donation, large or small is very much appreciated. Here are some ideas: 1. Make a donation to honour a friend who is having a special birthday or anniversary. 2. Leave a legacy in your will. 3. Have donations in your honour or memory directed to the Foundation. 4. Set up a fund named for yourself or your family to which your friends or relatives can donate and have it go to ward grants in a specific field. 5. Set up a fund in your group name with funds going to your group for long term income. 6. Get together with your co-work ers and have an event to raise funds for a donation. The Foundation will be holding an Information Night and Annual General Meeting on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Beausejour Town Hall.
