- The Kanawha County Board of Education refused to surrender to a Small band of hoodlums and directed that night football games’ should , continued in Charleston, so if the school board were to give up on this issue, then the militant “job would simply enlarge its scope of attacks. No one in Charleston “pould be safe at night. THE MAJORITY OF THE RESIDENTS of Charleston are entitled to the same rights as minority groups. Every time the radicals, mili t ‘stants and kooks hold a demonstration in Charleston they have the full “protection of the city and county authorities against any interference, ‘sThe militants demand the full exercise of the constitutional guarantees “of free speech and free assembly even to the point of denying these rights to the majority. ps In the case at Charleston, policemen as well as fans were attacked “and autos were stoned during the night games this season. ”. City councilmen said they wanted night games shifted to daylight “games. That would be a surrender to the hoodlums. THE SCHOOL BOARD AND THE POLICE AUTHORITIES should “give full protection to those attending the football games. They first should make certain that the entire area about the stadium is well lighted. Enforcement of the law and appropriate jail sentences will halt the criminal assaults of the hoodlum gangs. _ Fines and sentences should be made realistic in all cases of convic tion.
