Roland has the reputation of always being musically inclined and the above picture bears out this fact as a band was organized here sixty-one years ago. In 1886, ‘The picture was taken alongside the first school house in Roland which was situated on the property now owned by H. M. Bakka on Main street. The picture was brought in by Mrs. P.J. Peterson who had borrowed it from her brother Joseph Twedt of Kiester, Minn. Mr. Twedt, who is ‘unable to see, told his sister who the members ‘of the band were when she explained to him what instrument they were playing. He could not remember all the members, but Mrs. Peterson and other old timers of the community got together and managed to name all the members of the band appearing in the picture. From left to right they are: : Ben Swenson, Lewis Sime, ‘Henry Duen, H. E. Myrah, A.Axelton, B.M. Ras musson, Joseph Evenson, Helgeson, Tornelius Hegland, Carl Oleson, Jos eph Twedt, I. A. Iverson, Johannes J. Sevde, Tom Sime, Larry Levi, Gunnar Swenson. Most of these men have Passed away. Only one of them remains in Roland, T. Hegland. Others who we know are still living are, Joseph Tweet of Kiester, Minn., Joseph Evensons of Long Beach, Calif., and Lars Levi of Huxley. There may be others still living whom we do not know about.
