CITY SULLETEN, Canvairs Car of 1860.—A meeting to perfect the organization of this Club, and to prepare for the campaign, will be held this evening, at the City Armory, Broad street, below Race. This Club performed excellent service for Lincoln and Hamlin in 1860, and will work as efficiently for Grant and Colfax during the present campaign. Col. Wm. B. Mann is then President and Chief Marshal. The Club is already a large one, but at the meeting this evening the number of members will, no doubt, be greatly swelled. It is suguested that all the campaign clubs and the Grant and Colfax clubs of other Wards at tend the meeting and fall in line to form one great Campaign Club of 1868. Numerrous Assault Arena Wire.—James Dougherty, residing at Front and Mifflin streets, is in the habit of getting drunk, and when in that condition, it is alleged, he abuses his wife in a shameful manner. Yesterday, while under the influence of liquor, he quarreled with his wife and beat her badly. He thenent her with a knife, seriously injuring her. Mrs. Dougherty was conveyed to the Hospital. The brutal hus band was arrested, and, after a hearing before Ald. Tittermary, was sent to prison. Intacat Waisky.—A man named John Mc Gettigan, residing at No. 504 Mullen street, was driving a wagon at a furious rate along German town avvenue, in the neighborhood of Seventh street, this morning, and was arrested by a po liceman. Upon the arrival of the prisoner and wagon at the Station house, two barrels of whisky were found in the vehicle. McGettigan was committed by Alderman Hood for fast driv ing, and his connection with the whisky will be investigated by the United States officials. Election oF 4 President.—The Trustees of Dickinson College, at their adjourned meeting in the city on Tuesday, 8th Inst., unanimously elected Rev. R. L. Dashiell, D. D., of the New ark Conference, to the Presidency of that Insti tution. Dr. Dashiell is a graduate of the Col lege. It is thought he will accept and enter on the duties immediately. Rosgrvo Hts Exretorer.—William Harris,who was employed in a brick yard at Forty-eighth street and Kingsessing avenue, was arrested yes terday for the larceny of money from a pocket in the coat of his employer. He was taken before Alderman Lungren, and was held in $500 bail to answer. Fire-proof Save Brown Orex.—The soap manufactory of Grady Keefe, on Fourth street above Lombard, was entered a few nights ago by breaking a panel out of the back door with an axe. The fire-proof safe was blown open, but the thieves got noth'ng for their trouble. Run Over A Cuive.—archivald Anderson, the driver of a milk-wagon, was arrested yesterday at Fifth and Race streets on the charge of having driven his horse and wagon over a little girl six years of age. He was held for a further hearing by Alderman Williams. Day Sergeant Adam Keese made the arrest. Surrosep Larcexy.Early this morning a man who gave his name as William Hutilinger was overhauled at Front and Vine streets. He had in his possession a large box of pepper, which is supposed to have been stolen from some spice manufactory. The prisoner was committed by Ald. Toland, Drary or 4 Pouicwnan.—James W. Benckert, a member of the Reserve Corps of Police, died last evening at his residence, No. 620 Fisher street, of jaundice. Mr. Benckert had been con nected with the Reserve Corps since it was estab lished, and was faithful officer. Bear His Wife.—RK.H. Edwards, residing at No. 2113 Carleton street was arrested yesterday and taken before Alderman Puncoast upon the charge of assault and battery on his wife. He was held in £ 00 bail for trial. De Accipent—A colored man named Simon Hill, the driver of a cart loaded with boards, fell off at Tenth and Race Streets, this morning,about nine o'clock, and the wheels passed over his left foot, crushing it badly. . ve Marker Trieves.—James Barns and Charles Dougherty were arrested this morning for the larceny of potatoes from South Street Market. They were committed by Alderman Tittermary. CuanGe or Tine.—By referring to our ‘‘Rail road Guide Column” it will be seen that the West Jersey Railroad Company have altered their time schedule to suit the season. Hereafter there will be but one train deily,leaving Market street wharf at 3.15 P. M., returning, will leave Cape Island at 6.30 A. M., making the row each way in three hours and a half. The new arrangement com mences on Thursday next. The Mountoin Bouse at Cressox.—By refer ence to the advertisement in another column it will be perceived that the Mountain House, at Cresson Springs, will remain open until October 1st.
