Noted Irvington _ Resident Was Eighty-four Mrs. Jennie Prince Black, widow of Henry Van Deventer Blick, who spent most of her life in Irvington, died at her ome, the Hotel Goth fam in New York City, last Thurs day after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 11 clock on Saturday morning at the High Avenue Presbyterian Chure which Ms. Black had atended io closing her Irvington ome Interment wat in Sleepy Hallow Cemetery. “Although she was eighty-four years old, Mrs. Black had visited her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Prince Black of Barney Park, less than a month ago and renewed many of her Tevington friendships Mrs. Black was long and in mately a part of Irvington lie. She had been brought to Irvington by her parents, Dr. Christopher Prince and Mrs. Gertrude Cornell Ditmas Prince, when she was a very small ‘child and she resided for some 75 years in the Prince homestead on North Broadway, the main dwell ing of which was razed only a few] c years ago, AS a child she recalled | snecdotes, of Washington Teving v sold by her father who had known ‘the world famous author, and who was a friend of many of the people] ¢ who made Irvington famous is a] residential center for the ltra wealthy of the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Drs. Black was, one of the three charter members of the Hudson River Music School at Dobbs] Ferry. She also was one of the original managers of the “Robins lc Nest a home for crippled children for Tarrytown. She served as man ager for the Tarryton and Dobbs 1 Berry Hospitals for 30 years in, 1938, Mrs. Black privately a tialfe along the Hudson in 18008. She was the founder of the com mittee which raised funds and rected “the Washington Irving Memorial designed by Daniel Ches ter French. As a composer, Mes Black had written and published almost 100 instrumental and vocal works . She is survived by two daugh ters, Mrs. Dorothy Place Black of Irvington, and Mg Nicholas.
